A Logo Born from Beerstorming
Brand Name: Mikkeller Running Club Berlin
Objective: Mikkeller Running Club Berlin
My Role: Creative Director
Co-Creator & Illustrator: Inga Zambare
A fellow runner challenged me to design a logo for the Mikkeller Running Club Berlin, a unique chapter of the global MRC community. The goal? Capture the spirit of Berlin’s beer-loving, pavement-pounding crew in a single, memorable mark.
What started as a playful exercise quickly turned into a deep dive into the essence of MRC Berlin. The early sketches explored everything from a rebellious bear in stiletto running shoes to retro sweatbands and pretzel-covered short shorts. Each iteration pushed the limits of absurdity before finding balance in a final design that felt truly Berlin—bold, iconic, and with just the right amount of irreverence.
My co-creator and designer brought the logo to life through multiple iterations, including one with a pretzel instead of a kebab. We gathered feedback from the team at each stage, refining the design until the final version was voted on—ultimately landing on the perfect logo that everyone was excited to slap on stickers and even fake tattoo on themselves!
The finished logo is the only official Mikkeller Running Club design to have its own distinct identity—an emblem that represents the club’s independent spirit, camaraderie, and love of both running and beer. Whether on stickers, tattoos, or race-day gear, the MRC Berlin logo is a badge of honor for those who lace up and log miles for the love of the sport (and a post-run pint).
Need a logo for your own run club, beer club, or something in between? Let’s talk—I know a good scribbler and an even better designer. And if you’re looking for a running crew that celebrates both the grind and the reward, join us at @mrc_berlin—we’ve got plenty of cool swag to go around.
